Jonathan Wright, Engineering Manager at 600 Lathes

New engineering manager at 600 Lathes

600 Lathes has appointed Jonathan Wright as the new head of its engineering design department.

Leeds-based 600 Lathes has set out to become a reference site of choice for manufacturing within the UK by delivering quality engineering expertise, cutting edge products and first class after sales service.  Manufacturing Colchester-Harrison lathes at its plant in Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire, the company has appointed Jonathan Wright as the new head of its engineering design department.

Jonathan Shaw, Managing Director of 600 Lathes, said, “Our future lies first and foremost with our design department:  it is upon them that the responsibility rest for applying latest technology to the creation of innovative, practical, affordable lathes which meet the foreseeable requirements of our customers and which we can manufacture at a profit.  The appointment of Jonathan (Wright) is a very important one.  He has been a leading force in the design and development of the new Tornado TT6 (introduced to the market at MACH) and will give us the competitive edge with the new machines he has on the drawing board”.

Jonathan first joined 600 Lathes in the early nineties, as one of its sponsored students.  After completing his degree in Electrical and Electronic engineering, he worked for the company for several years before seeking broader experience in the machine tool industry.  He rejoined the company in 2000 initially as electrical project engineer but quickly became Electrical Engineering Manager.  In 2005 600Lathes recognised his skill and commitment with further promotion and responsibilities.

Jonathan Wright said “I am – of course – pleased by my appointment.  My tasks are interesting and exciting, and have clearly visible goals and achievements.  Engineering design has a vital role in the future of 600 Lathes and the manufacturing plant here in Yorkshire.  Design is key to our future.  It is essential that to remain a leading manufacturer of lathes we remain on top of new technologies.  My task is to maintain a continual process of developing new and extending existing machines in ways which give our customers better production options.  I am already focussed on the generation after the next generation of machines.  I led the team which developed the new Tornado TT6 twin turret twin spindle lathe, including working with our suppliers to ensure we made the best possible use of the latest technology available, and am looking forward to embarking on the next project.  My task is not simply to originate ideas for new machines and undertake their project management.  Equally important is to extend the capabilities of our existing machines in productive, profitable ways”.

Jonathan took up his new appointment in April 2008.
